Spiritual Growth

Growth in our relationship with God is the highest priority.

(As we see it)

Below you will find resources that are separated into two categories; Gain Knowledge & Take Action

Gain Knowledge is focused on providing resources for you to use to become more fluent in the topic.

Take Action is focused on providing resources for you to go have experiences in the area.

We are careful to provide resources that we find 'Truth' in.  We are not endorsing any one resource over any other as 'Truth' will meet you where you are at.  But, for the most part these resources are Christian based.

The Bible

The Bible is the core resource for spiritual growth.  Get one, period, no matter the translation, the message will challenge/guide/help you.  Where to start? Try the New Testament Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). Understanding the story and teachings of Jesus Christ are paramount to building good relationships.

5 Guidances:

  1. The first time you read it, read it with the intent of listening to the stories, don't get too deep to fast.

  2. There will probably be stories or verses that hit home to you.  Take a second and ask why.

  3. A lot of people find that journaling their thoughts after reading a chapter or book is a great way to sort your thoughts.

  4. Find a friend to read it with, preferably your spouse, but anyone is better than no one.

  5. If you are searching and get confused with which 'version' or 'translation' to get, start off with a teen focused version.

A Case For Christ - Lee Strobel

This book is written by a former atheist who was a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, has a Journalism Degree from University of Missouri, a Masters Degree from Yale Law School, and drove the expose on the Ford Pinto Crash trial.

5 Guidances:

  1. This book focuses on the validity of the miracle of the resurrection of Christ

  2. Read it from a sceptical vantage and see if it does not legitimately challenge you.

Blessed are the Misfits - Brant Hansen

Brant Hansen is a Radio Talk Show Personality that shares his unique relationship with God.  This book is for those who say"Yes, I believe... but help me in my unbelief."

In his own words:

"If American church culture makes perfect sense to you and you fit in seamlessly, don't read this. Seriously, return it immediately, before you spill something on this book and can't get a full refund.  Because this book is for the rest of us."

His unique perspective includes being an introvert, a skeptic, and an "Aspie" (Someone with Asperger's).  But the rubber meets the road as he sanctifies our struggles in our fallen human condition with the reality of his struggle.

5 Guidances:

  1. This book is a game changer for those who have evidence but struggle with faith and leaning into God.

  2. Read this if you believe and maybe have even 'received' Jesus as your Saviour, but still struggle with the trappings and sins of this world.

Crossroads Church (In Person or Virtual)

Crossroads Church has many sites in and around Cincinnati, Ohio and has the opportunity to attend from your living room through Crossroads Anywhere that streams the message.

Crossroads is for anyone who wants to seek God. From those exploring whether or not God even exists, to committed Christ-followers. We present biblical truths and show how they apply to our everyday lives. And we have a lot of fun while doing it.

Note: This is where all 4 of our founders call home base.

5 Guidances:

  1. Check out their website

  2. Listen to their message either live, virtually live, or they have a Youtube Channel

  3. Invite a couple of friends to watch and discuss what was shared.

  4. Go through their "Journey" it starts in February and lasts for 6 weeks. (GAME CHANGER!)

  5. Go on a "GO" Trip - Meet others who are on the same path as you.

Go To Church - At the Coffee Shop

Matthew: 18:20 - "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." This is the message Jesus shares when he is talking about how to deal with problems in the church, but it also shares the sentiment that when we meet to learn, listen, submit, work, etc... in his name, he is there.

So, go to the coffee shop, meet up with whomever you invited, invite god into your conversation, share your stories, pain, stresses, hopes, and dreams.  Then, listen to what the other person has to share.  Share what is on your heart with them, and listen to what is on their heart for you.

You will notice that the Scripture referenced above is for problems "IN" the church.  Remember, we can not share what we do not have. So, make sure you have invited Godly to build into you.

5 Guidances:

  1. This can not be done alone.  To see reality, one must have two points of reference.

  2. Sit down with someone you trust and respect.

  3. Pick someone who doesn't have exactly the same views as you.

  4. Grow into a small group, the more perspectives you have the closer to reality you will get.

  5. If your not being challenged to re-think your perspective, you probably are not meeting in his name.
